Project Description

MODEL: 1981 Mercedes-Benz 300SD Sedan
OWNER: Joseph M.

DETAILS:

There are two vehicles commonly mentioned when needing transportation during a nuclear holocaust: an early 1980s Toyota compact pickup truck or an early 1980s Mercedes-Benz diesel.  And for good reason. The Benzos from this period were among the most over-engineered and well-built (and still largely hand-built) vehicles the three-pointed star has ever produced.  The diesels such as this SD variant were even more accomplished than their gasoline counterparts which were well-respected in their own right. Owners have routinely driven 350,000 miles or more in their 300SD with many exceeding 500,000. Still loved by taxi drivers throughout Africa where economics requires cheap transportation, maintenance, and a knack for running on second-hand fuel, the Mercedes diesels of yesteryear take endless abuse yet keep on running.
