Project Description
MODEL: 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII
OWNER: Kamil K.
DETAILS:
The Japanese rally car war was an ongoing battle off-road and in showrooms around the world as Subaru and Mitsubishi traded haymakers in an attempt to capitalize on a growing segment of the enthusiast car market. Subaru landed first with the WRX, but Mitsubishi was ready for a counterpunch and debuted the EVO VIII one year later in 2003 — the first Evolution to make it onto US shores. Subaru would then respond with the STi, but the EVO VIII held firm — powered by a twin-turbocharged four-cylinder with permanent AWD and 276hp. With an optional rally-style rear wing, rear window wiper, and a 6-speed manual, the EVO VIII both looked the off-road part and tore up tarmac too. Subsequent EVOs have replaced the VIII but many USA Mitsu fans still find the “original” closest to the spirit of the EVO nameplate.
